The 2025 School Year – So far!

April 9, 2025

The first quarter of the 2025 school year has just culminated with exams this week, and we wanted to share some highlights!

This year, we increased class sizes to maximize our resources and extend the opportunity for transformational education to even more children from vulnerable situations. We opened new spots for incoming students while also seeing higher retention across all grade levels—a reflection of the trust families place in our programs and the lasting impact of your support. In addition to increased enrollment, we are proud to be making meaningful progress toward gender parity in student registration, ensuring that all children—regardless of gender—have access to a quality education. While the majority of our students continue to attend as day students, we’ve also welcomed more residential students this year, offering them not just a place to learn, but a place to call home.

We are deeply grateful for our long-standing partnership with AdventHealth Sharing Smiles, who visited us in March for the 10th year in a row—this time with a brand-new team of dedicated professionals. During their visit, they supported our resident dentist, Dr. Nora, with exams and procedures for our newest students, focusing on restoration and prevention. In total, they saw 65 patients and completed an impressive 291 procedures—restoring not only smiles and health, but also confidence and self-esteem.

Another partnership we’re grateful for is with Sunshine School, founded by Ana María Cardona, whose commitment to education and service has made a meaningful and profound impact on our students. Every weekend, a group of Sunshine’s senior students visit El Hogar to lead STEAM workshops for our younger students—bringing energy, creativity, and a spirit of collaboration. These sessions are not only educational, but also fun and engaging, sparking curiosity and building skills in science, technology, engineering, art, and math.

As we continue to grow and enrich our programs, we’re excited to share that we now have a dedicated English teacher working across both campuses, as well as vibrant art and culture classes that include folk dance, guitar, visual arts, and marimba—offering our students creative outlets to express themselves and connect with their heritage. With so much positive energy and collaboration, we look forward to even more activities as the school year continues.
