NOTES FROM HONDURAS

Globally, the pandemic has changed the way we do things and that is no different at El Hogar. Recently, four of our high school girls sat down and reflected on some of the changes in their education, their residential life, and the way that that they interact with their family.
A nivel mundial, la pandemia ha cambiado la forma en que hacemos las cosas y eso no es diferente en El Hogar. Recientemente, cuatro de nuestras niñas de secundaria se sentaron y reflexionaron sobre algunos de los cambios en su educación, su vida residencial y la forma en que interactúan con su familia.
Virtual Education
We are in the era of technology, now everything is digital and during the pandemic an electronic device has become indispensable, and more than ever because we cannot attend in person classes. Before we received a device, it was very difficult for us to keep up with our homework and we could not do some assignments or be able to send them in on time, and that led to low grades. Also, we could not understand well how we had to do or send homework assignments, but now that we have tablets we feel very good as we are taking classes with our respective teachers and seeing our classmates on Zoom. It still complicates the technical classes for us, and we hope in the future that we will have them face-to-face.
Educación Virtual – Estamos en la era de la tecnología, ahora todo es digital y durante la pandemia un dispositivo electrónico se ha vuelto en algo indispensable, y mas que nunca debido a que no podemos asistir a las clases presenciales. Antes de la entrega del dispositivo se nos complicaba mucho estar al tanto de las tareas y no podíamos hacer algunas asignaciones o poder enviarnos a tiempo, y eso sumaba a bajas calificaciones. También, no podíamos entender bien como teníamos que hacer o mandar las tareas asignadas, pero ahora que tenemos tablets nos sentimos muy bien como estamos tomando clases con los maestros respectivos y ver a nuestros compañeros por Zoom. Todavía nos complica las clases técnicas, y esperamos en futuro que las tengamos presenciales.
Residential Life
Although the pandemic has paralyzed the whole world, we have tried to do some of the same things as before, only now we are more careful when going out or doing some activities. With outings, we can distract ourselves and get out of our daily routine and enjoy something different. We have very good experiences. Through the outings, I have learned to appreciate nature and how beautiful it is. Thank God no one has gotten sick because we follow biosecurity measures. We have gone to el Picacho [National Park], La Tigra [National Park] and to the Technical Institute and Farm in Talanga.
La Vida Residencial – Aunque la pandemia ha paralizado todo el mundo, hemos procurado hacer algunas de las mismas cosas que antes de la pandemia, solo que ahora hemos tenido más cuidado a la hora de salir o hacer alguna actividad. Con los paseos, podemos distraernos y salirnos de la rutina y poder disfrutar algo diferente. Tenemos muy buenas experiencias. Por medio de los paseos, he aprendido apreciar la naturaleza y lo hermoso que es. Gracias a Dios nadie se ha enfermo porque seguimos las medidas de bioseguridad. Hemos ido al Picacho, La Tigra, las instalaciones del ITSM y la escuela agrícola en Talanga.
Family Visits
We spend most of the year here [in El Hogar] and being able to see a family member makes us feel joy. Best of all, there is a biosecurity process; we have a space for family visits without forgetting that we are in a pandemic, so the necessary measures are taken. Thank God our families are also healthy, it has been a pleasure to see our families again after a long time and share with them. When we see our family, we are very excited to see their faces after a long time. We have learned how to value all those moments that you can be with them. We would like everything to go back to what it was before, to be able to give our family a hug. In the meantime, we have learned that everything can be done through biosecurity measures.
Visitas Familiares – Pasamos aquí casi todo el año y cuando podemos ver a un familiar, causa cierta alegría. Lo mejor de todo que hay proceso de bioseguridad; tenemos un espacio a la visita familiar sin olvidarnos que estamos en una pandemia así que se toman las medidas necesarias. Gracias a Dios nuestros familiares también están con salud, ha sido un honor volver a ver a nuestras familias después de mucho tiempo y compartir con ellos. Cuando veamos a nuestros familiares, nos sentimos muy emocionados ver a sus rostros después de un gran tiempo. Hemos aprendido como valorar todos aquellos momentos que puede estar con ellos. Quisiéramos que todo volviese a los de antes, poder dar un abrazo a mi familia. He aprendido que por medio de las medidas de bioseguridad se puede hacer todo.
