There was plenty to celebrate at El Hogar in August as students, staff, and friends gathered for the blessing and official inauguration of Sonrisas El Hogar, a new dental clinic serving El Hogar students, their families, and the surrounding community.

The ribbon-cutting marked the culmination of months of planning, construction, and preparation. But the most exciting part came next: welcoming the clinic’s first patients.

A new way to care for our neighbors

Since opening its doors at the end of August, Sonrisas El Hogar has continued to provide dental care to patients from El Hogar, and has begun reaching out to the surrounding community. As outreach efforts introduce more neighbors to the clinic, appointments are increasing and the schedule is filling quickly.

Located on the El Hogar campus, Sonrisas El Hogar offers general and specialized dental services at affordable rates, expanding access to oral health care for families in the neighboring San José de la Vega community.

The clinic is designed to become financially self-sustaining over time, allowing it to continue serving the community for years to come.

It’s an exciting step forward, rooted in a simple idea: caring for young people means caring about the health and well-being of the communities they call home.

A shared vision brought to life

The clinic took shape through the dedication of many people. Dr. Nora Núñez helped guide the project from planning through construction, while partners including Sharing Smiles contributed resources and equipment to bring the space to life.

At the inauguration, the blessing of the renewed space and the cutting of the ribbon offered an opportunity to recognize everyone who had played a part.
